Yangshuo: karst peaks,
river days and countryside rides

Come to Yangshuo for a landscape you can spend time inside: limestone peaks rising behind the fields, rivers reflecting the hills, and country lanes that invite you to slow down. For a first taste, put the countryside and a river outing at the centre of the stay.

01 / The countryside

Ride between the peaks

Yangshuo’s scenery becomes more memorable when you move through it at your own pace. In the Yulong River countryside, choose a manageable cycling section, look for open views across the fields and stop when the shape of the hills catches your eye. Yulong Bridge is one named riverside landmark to consider when choosing the area you want to explore.

Our recommendation is a short ride with generous pauses, rather than turning the day into a distance target. If cycling is not your thing, choose a shorter walk and a scenic stop instead. The reward is time in the landscape.

02 / The rivers

Watch the mountains unfold from the water

The river is another way to appreciate the same dramatic setting: cliffs, greenery and a changing outline of peaks as you move along the water.

Choose the experience you want. A Li River outing is about the wider river scenery; a Yulong River bamboo-raft experience brings you into a smaller river setting. For Li River scenery, consider the Xingping area as one focus. Plan the specific stretch and boarding point around your interests. They are separate options, so give your chosen outing its own time.

03 / Room to linger

Keep part of the day unplanned

After the ride or river outing, leave room for lunch and a view. A riverside pause, a short village stroll or a drink with the hills in the background can be a highlight in its own right.

For a relaxed outing, we would start with a countryside ride or walk → lunch and a rest → one river or scenic stop. Choose one main river experience instead of collecting every boat trip. Travellers who prefer photography and slower days can spread these experiences across a longer stay.

A few details that help the day work

Weather: light, visibility and river operation vary; keep the order flexible. Activity: match the cycling section to your confidence, use a helmet and avoid busy roads. Rafting: check the selected operator’s current passenger rules and operating conditions, especially for children or travellers with mobility needs.
